Hafton Castle wedding

Tom and Klaire met the other side of the world, and got engaged live on Good Morning Britain on Valentine’s Day

“We met in Cairns, Australia, both backpacking around the world at the time and ended up in the same dorm room. Tom had me belly laughing from the first 10 minutes of chatting! Our first date was in a Mexican restaurant, which became the reason for our surprise, extravagant engagement. We lived together in London for a while and then moved to Edinburgh.”

“The engagement was a HUGE surprise – it was on live TV, on Valentine’s Day, in front of millions, on the Coronation Street cobbles, serenaded by the Doritos mariachi band!”

Klaire wore a beautiful fishtail wedding dress sourced from an Elgin bridal boutique

“I wanted a very simple wedding dress to start with, as I knew I’d add to it as I went along – I had a fantastic dress maker (Perfect Moments Bridal Boutique), who knew exactly what I wanted. She worked on my sister’s dress so I knew she was the best and I had an idea to add a big bow on the back and it turned out just as I had wished. The veil was my sister’s (something borrowed) that I had altered to add the hemmed edge.”

“Tom’s suit was designed for the England football team. It was cut from 100 per cent British cloth sourced from Alfred Brown mill, featured a football pitch lining and the World Cup gold star on the inside – Tom’s not a massive football fan, but he shopped about for a navy suit that fitted well and as soon as he saw and tried this on, it was perfect. It didn’t give England much luck, but it worked a charm for him!

Intimate fun-filled weekend wedding at Hafton Castle, Dunoon

“The wedding was about celebrating in style, with our closest friends and family, with everyone mucking in, and having a good time in a castle. The feel of the day was relaxed, intimate and full of laughs which carried on into the wee hours!”

“Hafton Castle is a beautiful, old castle with views over Holy Loch. It has 19 bedrooms, all with en-suites, a lovely reception area, a bar, swimming pool, snooker table and fantastic gardens, so it was ideal for intimate weekend wedding. We had the run of the place and could decorate as we wished – having this freedom was fantastic and exactly what we wanted.”

“I couldn’t imagine getting married anywhere else – I’m Scottish and wanted somewhere that had enough space for all our family and friends to stay. Why would you not want to get married in a beautiful Scottish castle?”

This wedding had heart warming details, including personalised drink mats, a wedding who’s who guide, and Jägermeister gifts

“We got married in a handfasting ceremony with an interfaith Minister. Tom got a bit excited and basically said ‘I do’ to her rather than me! This had us all in giggles.”

“We made lots of little details to savour, including Tom & Klaire branded welcome mirror & drink mats; a fun “who’s who” guide to all wedding guests; polaroids of all guests on room doors; and lots of fairy lights.”

“Tables were tastefully decorated with beautiful flowers, lots of golds & pastels, and protein shake / cocktail shaker gifts that included cigars, sparkles and Jägermeister”

“My dad’s speech had him and everyone crying! He couldn’t get through the speech without crying. It became funny and my mum tried her hardest to get him to pull it together.  The best man’s speech was incredible – Dave was a natural comic with impeccable delivery and stories that were shocking, hilarious and shamefully true!

“We had a DJ only – our first dance was James Vincent McMorrow, Higher Love. Everyone dancing to Loch Lomond was also a superb way to end the night and a memory that will stay with us forever.”

A bride’s advice: worry only about the things that matter the most

“Take time to think about what actually matters. Spending time and effort worrying about minor things will spoil the fun! If your prep is on point it’ll be fine – let it go and relax, come the big day it all just fits into place and all you think about is how wonderful it is to be marrying your better half, with everyone you love to be there to share it with you.”

“Just wanted to say a massive thanks.  You were excellent all weekend and the photos are absolutely brilliant – we’re totally made up.  Thank you again, brilliant job – will recommend you highly”
